Not entirely sure what Spore’s Creature Creator is all about? Perhaps this tutorial video from one of the artists working on the game will help.

John, the narrator of the video, is obviously very experienced at manipulating all the limbs and body parts, but he explains the various basic functions very well and it seems not unlike many other editing programs you might be used to, such as Photoshop. There’s even an undo button, for the inevitable mistakes during design.

In a second video John takes us through the deceptively simple “paint” mode for the creatures. There’s actually a lot more to it than there appears to be at first glance. See for yourself in the following video.

There had been some concern that there would only be a set number of patterns, maybe in the dozens but certainly nothing like the custom paintjobs demonstrated in the above video. Obviously the option is still there to pick one of the standard colourations, but there’s a very nice array of options available if you want to dig into it deeper.

Only about one week to go until we can get our hands on this ourselves. Are you looking forward to it more after seeing these tutorial videos? I certainly am!
