Following on from yesterday’s leaking of the Creature Creator, the Sporepedia has now surpassed a monstrous 13,000 creatures, with over 12,000 of those being uploaded within the last 24 hours.

As a result, Maxis have shut the login feature of the Creature Creator Trial down, telling everyone they need to come back on the official launch date. When attempting to login, gamers will receive the following notice:

The message received if you try to login with an invalid client.

It is unclear at this stage whether gamers who used the illegitimate version will be punished, but it seems unlikely - many of the 12,000 players who registered in the last 24 hours probably did not have permission, but if they find they’ve been banned over this they may be less inclined to purchase the full game, and that’s not publicity EA and Maxis will want.

How many Spore creations by the end of the year?

And another random sampling of creatures from the Sporepedia!

(If you happen to have the Creature Creator, you need to save the thumbnailed versions, not the full size ones. Which is why I’m displaying the thumbnails now instead of the full size images!)

[Update]

The Trial version of the Creature Creator is now available via Internode. See this post for details on how to download the Spore Creature Creator!

[Update #2]

The full version of the Creature Creator is now available. See this post for early details.
