Name: Coney!

Description: It’s an intergalactic traffic cone!

In the future all construction markers will be sentient machines like this one. And all will be programmed to seek Sarah Coner.

Statistics:
Abilities – Mating Call, Jump (1)
Attack – Bite (2), Charge (1)
Socialize – Sing (2), Dance (3), Charm (5)
Speed – 1
Health – 45
Diet – Omnivore

Notes:
It’s a traffic cone, honest!

The mouth is concealed under the “skirt” of the cone, as is the tiny leg and tiny foot.

Created because I often use a traffic cone as my avatar on gaming forums. The original avatar was rendered using POV-Ray, but I wanted a Spore-y one for the Spores Illustrated forum.

Name: Goa’uld (symbiote)

Description: A goa’uld symbiote from the show Stargate: SG-1

Statistics:
Abilities – Mating Call, Sprint (2), Sight
Attack – Bite (3), Charge (1), Spit (2)
Socialize – Sing (1)
Speed – 0
Health – 40
Diet – Omnivore

Notes:
Many of you may not recognise this creature, but it’s based (loosely…) on the goa’uld symbiote in Stargate: SG-1, the evil snakelike parasites that invade a host body (mostly humans) and take over, forcing the human to watch as they perform evil deeds for thousands of years.

I’m not 100% happy with the way it looks, but it’s a reasonable facsimile, I think.

And no, that isn’t a typo. The speed of the creature is indeed listed as 0. It can in fact move in the Test mode, so it ought to move in the final game as well. It sort of slithers along the ground.
Oddly, it also has the “Sprint” ability. Not sure how it can actually sprint, but the animation is the mouth opening and closing really fast while the body remains still. Weird!

Name: Hippity Hoppity Alien

Description: He hips, he hops, he just can’t stop!

Statistics:
Abilities – Mating Call, Graspers, Sight
Attack – Bite (5), Charge (1), Strike (2)
Socialize – Sing (2), Dance (1), Charm (1), Pose (1)
Speed – 2
Health – 40
Diet – Carnivore

Notes:
Dance value of 1? Clearly this doesn’t take into account how cool a creature looks when doing the Hippity-Hop dance!

Hippity Hoppity Alien’s mouth is actually attached to a short limb, so the mouth can move around quite a bit, including bopping along when dancing.

Definitely one of the creatures I will be playing in the full game!

For those who didn’t read the introductory post, or who weren’t here for Challenge #1 or Challenge #2 or Challenge #3 or Challenge #4 (kudos to everyone who has participated!), part of what I’m hoping to do here on Spore Daily is give people a nudge in the creativity department by setting weekly challenges for people to try.

These challenges are meant to be the fun kind of challenge, not the gruelling “Climb Mt Everest” kind. And it’s not a competition, either. But even if it was, there would still be no prizes. Sorry, all my money is invested in cookies.

Think of the challenge as more of a “prompt”, as some fiction writing circles are known to do some times. Someone comes up with a theme, or an idea, or a setting and writers can then fill in the blanks, as it were.

In this instance, it will be some kind of guideline to follow when creating your creature.

This week’s challenge is just plain weird!

Challenge #5:

CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW? Well, if not, maybe you should evolve some more ears, or have your existing ears grafted to a more useful location!

In this week’s challenge you should have either an unusual quantity of ears on your creature or ears in an unusual place on your creature.
An unusual quantity might mean 7, for instance, while an unusual place might be the creature’s feet!
It’s entirely up to you.

As always, post links to your creatures in the comments section and have fun!

An interesting detail about Spore emerged from the Comic Con presentation by Will Wright. When the game releases in September players will be able to capture images and video in game then upload them to a site called MashON.com and create comic strips from them.

Or people could go there right now and create e-cards based on their Spore creations!

It doesn’t seem like you can add your own creatures to the cards at the moment though – if you discover otherwise, please share the procedure in the comments.

The comics are supposed to be embeddable and sendable via email when the full service launches. It looks like Spore will be popping up in many more places than we might have imagined!
