I apologise for not putting up a notice previously but due to illness I’ve been unable to do so. I am currently on the mend and will hopefully be back to updating Spore Daily a bit more often before the end of the year.

But if you were wondering, no! I haven’t abandoned Spore. I’ve just had some more important things to deal with. :-)

If you really want to keep up to date with everything Spore I recommend Space Oddity’s Spore Blog or Spores Illustrated.

During my absence the first “parts pack” was announced for Spore, called the “Cute and Creepy Parts Pack”. As the name suggests, it adds a bunch of cute and/or creepy creature parts.

However the addon will also include the ability for your creature to “beam down” to a planet and wander the surface once you’ve reached the Space phase of the game, something a lot of players wanted. You’ll also be able to create custom missions for the Space phase which I guess is something people would want but perhaps were unaware they could have!

I’m not sure what the price for this pack will be elsewhere in the world but here in Australia it’s going to be $29.95 which is relatively cheap compared to the usual Sims 2 expansion price ($40-45) but still feels a bit pinchy in the wallet region when the game itself is still so new. It really feels like they could have pared down this content a little and released it in the first major patch as a further incentive not to pirate the game.

That said, the content is of interest to me (more parts won’t go astray) and the price is not exorbitant so I am likely to pick the expansion up, either directly or potentially from Santa!

Are you going to buy the Cute and Creepy Parts Pack?

Well, hello there. Welcome to Spore Daily. I’ll be your host, my name is Mythor. You may know me as one of those tools from the Spores Illustrated Mailbag and potentially other places, too.

I’ve been tossing up creating my own little Spore-themed corner of the web for a great many months now and with the imminent release of the Creature Creator I figured it was time to pull my finger out and get it done.

So, what is Spore Daily?

Spore Daily is my new pet project. Each and every day, beginning with the release of the creature creator, I will be creating and posting a new creature on the site.

Some will be good. Some will be bad. Some will be made in 5 minutes. Some may take 5 hours.

Some I hope to create based on prompts from readers or ideas from the general Spore community. Some I may create detailed backstories for… but probably not many!

I’m hoping to release one creature a day every day until the full game is released. After that I hope to branch out to vehicles, UFOs and buildings.

Is that all you’ll post?

I will probably also post about any important news related to the game or the community, but I won’t be endeavouring to post about everything – if you want comprehensive coverage, try Spores Illustrated. Jube is generally on top of everything and you’ll still catch me posting the odd bit of news there, as always!

Will you post any creatures created by other people? Will you post my creature?

I can’t guarantee I’ll post your creature specifically, but if you have any you’re particularly proud of you’re more than welcome to email me a link to your creature. If you have your own blog, feel free to email me a link to that. I’ll be adding more to the links list over time.

Additionally, I’m hoping to pose challenges for people to participate in. By this I mean the challenge might be to create “A creature with more than 10 legs” or “A creature with eye/s in unusual places”. Creatures created for such challenges may get highlighted here on Spore Daily!

What’s with the strange comment system? Disqus? Never heard of it!

Using Disqus is an experiment on my part. Previously I have only used the standard WordPress comments system, but it has proven only barely adequate.

Disqus allows threaded comments, allows people to up/down rate comments, gives everyone the ability to have a small avatar… and most excitingly, you can be notified of new replies to your comments via email and then reply to those comments via email!

I have yet to try this feature out for myself, but fingers crossed it’ll work well.

You will need to register for a Disqus account to make use of the above features. If you don’t want to register, you can still comment here, but you’ll be missing out on cool things.

Do you have an RSS Feed I can subscribe to?

Yes. This is a link to the standard RSS Feed that will list every post I make.

Once I can start creating creatures I hope to have a seperate feed just for the creatures, but that will have to wait.

Additionally, if you have LiveJournal, you can subscribe via this syndication feed to have my entries appear on your Friends page.

Is that it? Are you done?

Well, if you have any questions, you should of course feel free to ask them in the comments section.

And to reward you for sitting all the way through that, here’s some wallpapers for you. I hope to create some of my own at a later date. But until then, enjoy, don’t forget to vote in the poll to the right and see you in a few days for the release of the creature creator!
