So you got your hands on the Creature Creator trial version, through means fair or foul, but now the Sporepedia is down! How do you send your cool new creation to a friend before Tuesday?

Not to worry, you can still do so!

How to get your creatures out of Spore:

All the creatures, including ones you have imported into the game, are stored in -
My Documents > My Spore Creations > Creatures

In order to share them with a friend, you will need to send them direct to your friend via an instant messaging program or email, or if you want a web accessible link for posting on a blog you can upload them to a service such as ImageShack.

If you use the latter, make sure people know to download the image and not a thumbnail or other mangled version, as they won’t work.

How to get creatures in to Spore:

The first thing you will need to do, if you haven’t already, is swap to running the game in Windowed mode. As far as I am aware, it won’t work while you’re playing in full screen.

To swap to windowed mode, simply hit Alt-Enter while playing the game. You can also turn off Full Screen mode in the Options menu.

Once you have done that you can simply drag the picture of the creature you want to import from the Desktop or other folder you’ve stored it in and “drop” it on the Spore window. You’ll need to be in “Create” mode when you do so, not the “Test Drive” mode.

This won’t let you import creatures created with the full version of the Creature Creator, only the Trial version. If you find one created with the full Creature Creator it will tell you that it contains parts you don’t have.

Simple enough, right? If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the Comments section and hopefully someone will be able to help you.

Note that these instructions will also let you get at the video files, animated avatars and pictures if you want them. You don’t have to upload to YouTube or send via Email if you don’t want to!

Hope that helped someone.

Another day, another tutorial video, this one featuring Spore’s “Test Drive” mode, where you can see how your creature will look within the game. You can have your creature perform a number of different animations, from dancing to expressing abject terror!

Also detailed in the video is the various picture and video uploading functionality.

YouTube uploading is confirmed for the Creature Creator. You’ll need your own YouTube login and password in order to make use of it, but that also means you won’t have to hunt down your videos amongst the millions of others that will be uploaded.

For more details, have a look at the video for yourself…
